Hey guys, we know there are lots of things going on in the wedding industry, lots of events, lots of people doing a similar thing… but that shouldn’t mean we can’t all get along!
Today we are chatting to John from Not Just Travel NorthEast and Count Me In Events – so grab a cuppa (and a biscuit) and have a read
So John tell us a bit more about what you do. I have two businesses – Not Just Travel North East which has been running 2 years and Count Me In Events which has been going just over a year.
Why did you decide to set up in business? Having Rheumatoid Arthritis made me change direction as I was part owner of a 24/7 Admin firm but always involved with travel in some aspect. So I decided to set up Not Just Travel to feed my love of travel. Also having exhibited at a lot of wedding fairs, I found some treat you very well as an exhibitor, others less so. I wanted to make all exhibitors feel valued.
Travel wise – what is your Unique Selling Point? What it says on the tin – not just travel – we go the extra mile to ensure a personal one to one service, giving customer service the way it should be. Being a finalist in the 2013 North of England Wedding Awards demonstrates I am getting it right. In terms of our events, it is that we care about exhibitors, we understand they are not just some people who turn up on their day off and hope some visitors arrived – they are their to get the most for their business.
What is the favourite part of your job? Working with couples to plan their honeymoons. Also on their return hearing all about the trip. (At Tyne the Knot we are NOT AT ALL jealous of all the research he has to do IN RESORT!!!). We also love seeing visitors flood in and happy exhibitors at our events.
We all have something that is bottom of our to do lists – what is the least favourite part of your job? When booking honeymoons, or any holidays for that matter, having to explain to a couple who have waited to book, that the prices and availability have changed. Never nice, but we always have something else to share and hopefully help them get an equally good trip. Our events are great it is simply the stress just before we open awaiting visitors!
What is your most popular product or service? Me! People buy in to me and my skills knowing I will work for them. Whether this is a honeymoon or a fair!
As a travel specialist – what is your top tip for brides and grooms? Always take a copy of your marriage certificate with you. Also, if a bride is wanting to change her passport before she gets married remember you cannot apply for VISAs until the day you are married when the passport comes in to force. And as a fair organiser – share your insight into making the most of the day. Do not turn up too late in the day, take time to talk to exhibitors and be polite to them even if you are not interested. It makes all the difference to exhibitors!
Do you have a favourite celebrity wedding? Yes, those we do not see in magazines 🙂
Do you have a favourite wedding venue? Exhibiting at and organising wedding fairs means I’ll step around answering that…
What trends do you see still making their mark or coming on the scene? Vintage style still a big one for weddings.
Share with us your favourite inspirational quote/verse: “Onwards and upwards”
What is your favourite wedding fayre? Our next one being planned….
And these are Count Me In Events, Falcons Rugby Club November 3rd (supporting St Oswalds ) and February 16th at Tiger Tiger Newcastle.
What is your wedding must have? A honeymoon or overseas wedding booked by Not Just Travel North East of course
Is there such thing as a typical day in the office? Not Just Travel North East always involves some sort of planning of a trip or an exotic holiday, generally a lot of working to people’s budgets. For an event organiser – not really (we hear that!!!)
As the expert, what is your dream honeymoon? Sugar Beach St Lucia (luckily I was taken there was few weeks ago by the Tourist Board it is wonderful) (we are not jealous….)
