For prospective brides looking for that perfect cake the vintage theme shows no sign of  waning and there are some stunning examples from cake makers in the area. Gorgeous  large roses and peonies (my favourite) adorn said cakes in soft muted vintage tones of  pinks, creams and pale coffee. Lace and ruffles are still hugely popular and will still play a  prominent role in next years trends. There are lots of new “play things” for the cake decorator with the introduction of “cake Lace” with gives an incredible lifelike and edible
look of real lace which in turn can be decorated with sugar pearls and gems. A popular medium now is to take an element of the brides dress and incorporate in the design of the cake with pleats, draping and brooches giving it a wow factor.

Wedding Cake by The AnticipationHarking back to days gone by the “Candy Cart” is really popular and will continue to be for a while yet. There are lots of firms that will hire out for your special day with an assortment  of sweets, Brilliant if you have children at your wedding but the “grown up’s” seem to love them equally. Who can remember or resist pear drops, rhubarb & custard, sherbet lemons and midget gems.

Dessert tables have found their way from over the pond and a mouth-watering array of bite size delights can prettify and complement your cake table. From French Macaroon (one of my particular favourites) mini cupcakes, cake pops, mini mousse desserts, mini trifles, all can be served instead of pudding at the reception.

Royal Icing has had a big resurgence since Kate & Williams Wedding. Cake decorators are now looking to brush up on their piping skills as pretty delicate designs are on the brides wish list. These can look stunning against pretty pastel fondants or be more dramatic with black on white or ivory fondant.

With Monochrome another new trend is for Silhouette with the bride & groom in different poses around the sides of the cake, very contemporary & Chic.

Hand painted cakes are making more of a presence, I originally saw a design by “Nevie Pie” her hand painted cakes are really stunning. Its not something I have done yet but am very keen to add this particular skill to my repertoire and like everything else I won’t attempt it on someone’s cake unless I know I can execute it perfectly.
